Joint Traffic Analysis and Modeling Workshop and Mid-Year Meeting | Aug 6th-8th
Sponsored by TRB Highway Capacity and Quality of Service Committee and Traffic Simulation Committee
Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committees Highway Capacity and Quality of Service (ACP40) and Traffic Simulation (ACP80) are holding their Mid-Year meeting jointly this year. The goal is to find synergistic ground for traffic analysis and modeling using the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) and Simulation. How can HCM and Simulation methods, tools, and research be right-sized for holistic consideration, and practical application to solve today's transportation problems and prepare us for the challenges of tomorrow.
The meeting will be held at North Carolina State University Campus in Raleigh from august 6th to august 8th. The first day of the meeting will have sessions on this theme including presentations, posters, and keynote address; on the next two days both the committees will focus on plans for future research based on dialogue generated from the first day, and the takeaways.
The abstract should address the theme and can include but not be limited to the following topics of interest:
- How do decision support based on HCM and/or simulation supplement each other? Or cases where they do not.
- How does "HCM-like" analytical approaches inform the concept of Digital Twins?
- Challenges and solutions related to the data used to conduct traffic analysis and modeling.
- Importance of standardized modeling protocols to ensure a models' creditability, reproducibility, and generalizability.
- Challenges due to gaps in available simulation guidelines and lessons.
- (In)consistency/(un)availability of guidelines for Measures of Effectiveness, model output analytics, and/or scenario building.
- Case Studies of modelling guidelines implementation.
- Use of HCM and simulation for modeling emerging transportation technologies and/or modes.
- How to address calibration and validation using modeling guidelines?

Authors of accepted abstracts will be notified by June-30-2024, selected authors will be invited to present their work in-person in Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday, Aug-6-2024.
You can leave the Stateview and Aloft if you like, but we do NOT have a room blocks there and they will be more expensive.
The two hotels are adjacent to each other, but have different rates. Only the first one was able to offer federal per diem. Both group rates are good through July 15, 2024, after which any remaining rooms are released back to the general public.
